Dedicated to the memory of George Button

This site is a tribute to George Button who passed away on 11th April 2020. He will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew him.

George died aged 89, after a short spell in hospital and years of devoted care by Rita at home in Ashford, Surrey.   They were active members of their local Parkinson’s Group.

George was born in 1930 to Christopher and Elsie Button, in Parkeston, Essex.  He joined the railways aged 15 as a junior clerk in Parkeston.  His successful 40 year railway career spanned North London, Parkeston, Southampton, Feltham, Richmond, Ealing Broadway, Slough (meeting and greeting the Queen in his bowler hat) and finally Area Manager Reading.

George and Rita (a local Parkeston girl) were happily married for over 66 years.  They had 3 children, Graham, Barry and Pauline (who sadly died aged 34) and seven grandchildren: Jessica, Sarah, Natalie, Laura, Joanne Richard and Charlotte.  George and Rita were loving and involved grandparents.  Two great-grandchildren, Lyra and Ada, lit up George’s later life.
Family was very important to George.  There were many wonderful family holidays, parties, day trips to the sea (George always swam however cold), football and card games.

George was a member of Weybridge Male Voice Choir for 32 years, actively involved until his death.

George will be remembered for his mischievous teasing, strong moral code and work ethic, for 66 years of devoted marriage to Rita and being an amazing family man.
